Title: A sad day Post by: Ty on September 16, 2009, 11:45:13 pm In a fit of nostalgia, I started digging through web.archive.org for the old style Shining Source. Remember the old acmefiles site? Now it's just a download website :( Even the old Shining Online geocities is going to die next month, although here's the very first site (http://www.smash.i12.com/shining/noframes/index.htm) for it.
Slightly related: Does anybody know how old the Shining Source actually is? I'm guessing it's about 9 years old now, but I'm not totally sure. Also, I'd totally forgotten about this smiley: LB^D Title: Re: A sad day Post by: Devlyn on September 17, 2009, 07:03:35 am Hey Ty,
If I recall correctly, we started the Shining Source endeavour on August 10th 2000. Before that it was just a site for the Shiny Sword and before that it was just my personal homepage on Angelfire ;). Title: Re: A sad day Post by: Ty on September 17, 2009, 12:48:02 pm Wow, so not long until the 10 year mark :O
Title: Re: A sad day Post by: Kusgam on September 17, 2009, 10:11:46 pm Wow Geocities and Angelfire
this is quite the nostalgia bomb Title: Re: A sad day Post by: Ty on September 18, 2009, 01:05:45 pm Sorry Dev ;)

Title: Re: A sad day Post by: Ty on January 07, 2010, 05:44:19 pm I wish to see this website.
Title: Re: A sad day Post by: Ty on January 08, 2010, 04:10:33 pm I'd almost forgotten about this, from many years back. Someone was leeching the new post and reply buttons, so I changed them a little.
Good times. Title: Re: A sad day Post by: Devlyn on January 09, 2010, 12:06:20 pm lol! I remember that! That was awesome :D :D.
Too bad nobody leeches us anymore :S. Title: Re: A sad day Post by: Noma89 on February 05, 2010, 05:24:46 am Speaking of nostalgia, I remember back in high school I used to visit Ye Olde Blah daily, if not several times a day. It's been a while since I've been here.
Hi, btw =P Title: Re: A sad day Post by: Ty on February 05, 2010, 03:27:24 pm Good to see you back around :) Funnily enough, just the other day someone left a comment (http://www.shiningsource.net/2005/09/bowie-online-new-progress/#comment-5663) about Bowie Online. Looks like you guys are still popular.
p.s. The new Shining Forever is looking good ;) Title: Re: A sad day Post by: juraNJ on February 05, 2010, 10:43:21 pm i remember back when i was really little i used to play shining force 2 (or well try to play it) my English was really poor back than so i could not even find a way to get to the first fight :D and when i finally made it that far i didn't know how to play it xD but well i learned how to play some time later and loved the game :D. Than the new challenge was that i didn't know how to revive characters so i came to the last battle before going to new land or however it is called with only jaha and bowie xD.And in time i overcame that problem and the last thing was that i didn't know how to save... so the most far place i could come to was the pheonix fort or what ever it was ;D good times

I linked to you guys, as I've always considered you one of the better Shining sites, even if the forums aren't super popular. Title: Re: A sad day Post by: Elvenfyre on February 27, 2010, 10:18:32 pm OK here's something peanut buttery goodness to keep Devlyn knowing we love him.
http://www.elfwood.com/~derekgroen/Klunk-in-water.2677879.html A couple of comments in the profile are worth a read too. Title: Re: A sad day Post by: Ty on March 01, 2010, 08:19:14 pm That's got Devlyn written all over it. I'm not sure why the parental rating is #2, though.
Title: Re: A sad day Post by: Devlyn on March 01, 2010, 08:47:38 pm Well, it's a decapitated head floating in water! A parental rating seems very obvious to me :P.
Title: Re: A sad day Post by: Elvenfyre on March 01, 2010, 11:18:32 pm I fancy it's an attempt at sky backing, as seen in portraits in SF2?
It is the char which was originally based on one of Devlyns friends D&D character who uses a grappling hook as a weapon - now that's what I call style. Title: Re: A sad day Post by: Ty on June 27, 2010, 01:18:54 pm I know nobody comes here anymore, but I found an old interview with Nick lying around so I published it last night: Shining Aid Interviews (http://www.shiningsource.net/shining-aid/interviews/). I can't remember the date on it though, but I'm guessing it's about 6 years old. How time flies...
Title: Re: A sad day Post by: Devlyn on July 01, 2010, 06:36:02 am Whoa, ancient stuff... :P. By the way, do you think there is any chance we could interview a retired Shining Developer by now? Surely some of them are out of the spotlights now?
Title: Re: A sad day Post by: Ty on July 01, 2010, 01:54:48 pm I'll see what I can come up wit ;) I've got a few other interview ideas lined up too, once I can make the interview page a little more readable.
Title: Re: A sad day Post by: Ty on July 03, 2010, 09:18:14 pm Tweaked the interview styles slightly. Hopefully will be a bit more readable now (might require a refresh to get the new stylesheet to load).
Title: Re: A sad day Post by: Devlyn on July 05, 2010, 08:33:49 pm Awesome updates Ty! :D
By the way, the Shining Source started on August 10th 2000 if I recall correctly :). Cheers! -Devlyn, who will likely be moving to London for a few years... Title: Re: A sad day Post by: Ty on July 05, 2010, 10:03:11 pm I've updated the timeline appropriately :) I managed to snag some of the old articles from archive.org, although I'm a little sad that the only interview missing is the one with me. Can't actually remember what I said in it :(
What's with the move to London? Oh, and I wonder if Newts remembers these? :newtshappy: :newtscry: :newtssad: :newtsevil: :newtssleepy: :newtstongue: :newtsshocked: Title: Re: A sad day Post by: Devlyn on July 09, 2010, 05:09:46 pm Oh, I may well be working at University College London there for a few years. I'm wondering if any of you still reside in Britain though. I recall something about moves to the US??
Title: Re: A sad day Post by: Ty on July 11, 2010, 04:29:59 pm Newts still lives in the UK, but I moved to the states last year. I still come back to visit the UK when I can though, so maybe I'll be able to buy you a beer one of these days ;)
Title: Re: A sad day Post by: Devlyn on July 16, 2010, 03:05:52 pm Wait a minute.... does this mean we will actually see each other in real life after a decade of online interaction???
Creepy! :P Title: Re: A sad day Post by: Elvenfyre on July 18, 2010, 01:11:53 am That may call for another 18 hour flight ;)
