Title: The Races of Shining Force Post by: Ty on September 08, 2008, 11:50:57 am I've been doing some research for the past few days on the different races that inhabit the World of Shining Force. There's quite a lot. It's a little bit tougher considering the class and race is usually tied together, especially with the more exotic creatures.
Here's the rough list so far, based on the first three Shining Force games and Shining The Holy Ark:
"Bad" Races - Lots of magical creatures here
I think a few of those (anything after Fairy) are more like magical creatures than a specific race. Is this on the right track? Can anyone think of improvements or additions? Update: Added more to the regular list, and added the "Bad" races list. There's a lot more variety in that section, and not a very easy way of telling what is a magical creature and what isn't. I don't know if Mermen fall under your category of Beastmen, but they aren't there. Pegasi, if you consider them seperate from Centaur. Armadillo.(beastman?) Whatever Alef is. Whatever Nova is. Halfling (Lowe is mentioned as one in the manual). Half-Giant (Gong is mentioned as one in the manual). Then you've left a lot of the "bad" races. (some of these could be considered "magical creatures" but there are lots of them in the game.. so). Demons.(maybe these don't inhabit the world during non-bad times). Hob/Goblins. Griffens. Harpies. Gargoyles. Cyclops. Animals(Dogs. Bats. Rats. Worms. Snakes. ++chickens!!) Do we consider the chess pieces robots, magically animated objects or a race? Kris is half-deer. Domingo is race 'Magical Creature'. Alef is half-fox. Torasu is also halfling.(i'm noticing a pattern here). I forgot things like Puppets, Shellfish, Undead. Nowhere can I find what Nova is, but he seems to have some fishy aspect to him. It just says in his bio he was once the greatest warrior in Guardiana. Title: Re: The Races of Shining Force Post by: Ty on September 11, 2008, 09:27:35 am Cheers Elv, I've updated the list to reflect those ideas. I'd assumed Kris and Alef were kyantol too, but I guess there's more bestiality in Shining Force than I realised...
The hardest part so far is drawing the line between a "race" and a magical creature. For example, some demons talk and are vital to the story, but others are just cannon fodder on the battlefield. |
