Title: Custom Sprite Edits
Post by: fin7710 on September 19, 2009, 05:45:25 am
After looking over some of the engines out there, I've recently decided to take a stab at my own SF game.  I have no title for it yet, and only a vague idea of where the story will start.  Anyway, I went ahead and created the sprites for the starting team of my game.  These are not from scratch, i made them by combining existing sprites.  My plan is to use the SFII/SFCD graphics, so thats mostly what these are based on.  Here they are...

SEIFER - SDMN

FINN - MAGE
(http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e319/FinFish77/Finn_Anim.gif)

LUKE - KNTE - PLDN
(http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e319/FinFish77/Luke_Anim-1.gif)(http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e319/FinFish77/Luke_Anim.gif)

ROSH - SHNB(Shinobi, promotes to NNJA)

BARTZ - WARR
(http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e319/FinFish77/Bartz_Anim.gif)

THOMAS - PRST
(http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e319/FinFish77/Tom_Anim.gif)

Unnamed
(http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e319/FinFish77/Unnamed-Hero-Anim.gif)

I think most of them look good.  I know Bartz needs a little work, he ended up looking like the dwarf miner from SFII.  Any comments/suggestions that you could give would be appreciated.

That's quite a good idea(combining), and they look great.

They look really cool, and you got the shading just right. The only improvement I can think of is the unnamed character - their shield changes colour between frames. Other than that, it's an impressive set of sprites :)

I really like these - I'd forgotten how cool SF sprites were! Good work on these and looking forward to seeing some more!

There's a dot in the top left of the priest sprite which appears / disappears.

Thanks for the positive feedback!  I should be posting some new sprites very soon.

Here is another version of the FINN sprite from above.  Let me know which one you like better.

I really like the hat in the second one, but I'm not sure if the walking is a little flat. It looks like the head might need moving a single pixel for one of the frames. They're both really good though, so perhaps the second could be for a promotion?
