Sean asked where people could submit ideas they had for the game.

This is the place =)

Heya :).

I was wondering if you would like SMEE to have an export to SO format so that users can make maps too, or if you prefer to keep that right exclusive ;).

Also, is SO still made with BlitzBasic? :)

An export feature would be nice. I'll probably be publishing most of the file formats and structures I use. I'll be sure to include an "Export to SMEE" option in SODA too.

It'll still be made in Blitz, mostly because I've got a large amount of code I've written in it over the years. I suck at Java too much to port it ;)

alright mates:

Some of the stuff may be technical, others just involving substance...also it may not be possible but its healthy to just throw it all out there :)

I was curious if the olde Friendship system would still be utilised, If so what if two characters with enough understanding of one-another surrounded an enemy were given an option to 'Pincer Attack' as it were, offering up more damage or something to get out of those hard to reach places :)

Is equipment going to play a more pivital role in SOnline? if i remember correctly you really just bought the weapon and accessories...the rest was all about character development through levels (more of a question than an idea there)
Followup: Will there be blacksmiths and the like to pound out the 'special ore' that you might find? (again..a question)

Was also thinking of spell-like-abilities for more of the less magically inclined characters such as the Archer..what about specific or even random special shots that reduce movement or something of that nature?

Righto, that's about all ive got just waking up :) i'll be thinkin' of more all the time mates! Wont be offended if none of these sound good, afterall these are all just ideas :)

Cheers!

I suggest making money less easy to come by, and, if possible, not acquirable through the killing of monsters. It's not terribly sensible that every time you kill a monster you get some money and even less that tougher monsters grant a greater financial reward. I think money should come primarily from searching & side quests.

The ability to place a spell to a tile instead of a monster would be nice, I guess....

Ka'Bump!!!

What about somewhat interactable terrain on the battlefield? something like hacking a bit at a tree to make it fall over a certain way to block the enemy's advance for a bit until they themselves chop through the fallen log?

or what about the ability to sponsor a football team? or some sort of sport so as to make money?

Having a research division for your army so that you can better understand your enemy's equipment..so that you may learn weaknesses or ways to better your armor against their weapons?

just a few :)

EDIT: What about being able to contract your army out to other kingdoms as a way to make ends meet?

The possibility of starting your own kingdom, and watch it grow based on things that you do..money you put into certain aspects of civil development..or something along those lines.

I haven't done any work on SOnline for a long time, and for this I'm very sorry.

I'll work on it tomorrow. Promise.

Keep those ideas coming everyone!

Hmm, I'm curious about the idea of creating your own kingdom. I thought about a larger world map with allegiances etc, and maybe even (gulp) user houses, but I'm not sure if those features would be in demand.

Any thoughts?

Although probly taking a MOUNTAIN of code :( (sorry..)
I think having your own kingdom would rock mate :)

perhaps there could be an interface where you invest money you've earned into producing better weapons for your 'army' that is being recruited on a daily basis...based on something or other (im sure those things will be worked out) So in the pvp aspect anyway if someone were to wanting to fight your kingdom they would fight a chunk of your army :) (level, strength and all the goodies based on how much money you've put into everything and what sort of 'training' you've done. Have Melee training, Ranged training, and Magic Training. Each costing a nominal sum to purchase a 'level' in. That would determine your army's abilities and tendency of using certain forms of combat.)

Have custom banners :) and all sorts of things mate! that'd be a perfect place to draft other folks into your personal squad as sortof a promotion from the ranks of your kingdom's army? or something like that?

That would just be awesome mate :) ive NEVER heard of anyone doing something like that before :)

EDIT: What about buildings that you can buy for your kingdom? things like a smithy and such, things that can either generate you items or money at a base rate depending on how well you do with your economy?
That'll produce more militant but culturally and economically unstable kingdoms and not well protected but highly productive sorts or kingdoms.

Open up the kingdom based PVP up for alliances and other such acts of foreign policy and politics. Trade with other kingdoms and things like that.

Lotsa possiblilities :)

double post!!

Sorry :D

If you didnt want the player kingdom thing to dive over to the PVP section, since people who werent around ALL the time would eventually be overrun and destroyed (unless things were put in place where that didnt happen/couldnt happen)

What about random 'encounters' sortof...for your kingdom? Enemy AI kingdoms or monsters would assault your castle and so on and you'd have to take control of what forces you have there and defend it?
Something like that?

I really like the idea of it..the thought and code behind it wouldnt be any level of easy but if you stuck the dungeon elements we discussed with the pvp stuff we threw around AND this you'd have a die-hard hit of a choice title mate :) and im certain it would attract a large player base...because lets face it....old games with 'top 10' lists or what not like Prom and such are popular because people want to earn something and be recconised for it.
They'll come in by the hundreds ;) :D

Anyone else got ideas or is this a one-man think tank situation?

It sounds suspiciously like a Hattrick hybrid ;)

I dunno what to say as to the ideas validity, it would be neat, for sure.

In order to control and breed a good community you could do it this way:

Players have to be a certain level and meet certain requirements before they can get their own kingdom.  Before they have a kingdom they can work for other kingdoms as part of their monster killing, world exporing, resource gathering, inside training arenas or kingdom vs kingdom battle teams.

You make it so that a kingdom is best run with 3 or 4 other high level teams in it, teams that decline to make their own kingdom - and the more active lower level teams, the better.  You provide incentives of loyalty and rivalry to keep players from starting their own kingdoms if possible.
You make gold prices for advances in the kingdom incredibly high priced so to make the strategy of what to get in what order all important.
Also, you do not allow your kingdoms to MAKE money(with things like alchemists guilds etc), apart from perhaps gambling on who will win in a kingdom vs kingdom battle.
The incentives for making your own kingdom should still be visible despite this - and yet not everyone should wish to do it.  Players that don't play all the time, and those who have a decent "rank" (you rank members of your kingdom) in the kingdom they are serving will find it better to stay supporting their kingdom.  Those with a low rank and play often - when ready can branch off, take a couple friends with them and start their own new kingdom.
The kingdom is almost like a guild, the identity being the key thing.  You can rank kingdoms by "influence" - the most playing time by members, battles won vs battles lost etc.
The other thing kingdoms could give easily is training.  Like sean says you could do training at a price - but my idea is slightly different.  You could do training, and train by playing "friendly" battles with other members of your kingdom against AI opponents who drop no items, but give extra experience.  Even training in friendly PvP vs your kingdoms other members.
The kingdom must by houses for each of it's members, and can upgrade training facility for extra benefits, as well as upgrading its weapon shop and herb shop for extra benefits.

i'm just waffling and repeating a lot of what you're saying sean, but i saw your cry for help and thought i'd give it a go.

Most of it is just shooting the breeze, but at least it's there to spark ideas.

anything becoming a pain to put together? Need something inspired? :)

I have to confess, I haven't made much progress this week. Newts did do some tiles and enemies though for quite a cool level, and I'm hoping I'll be able to get something done tomorrow.

There's a stack of things to do, but I think the priority is getting the new engine back to the state that demo 4 was. Which will be bloody hard  Still, it'll keep me occupied for a few days.

So did you get anything done?

Hows the engine rebuild going?

I got a few things done, but not what I'd intended. It wasn't even for SO, but it's something I intend to re-use with everything else I write.

I'm going to start a regular worklog on Monday, so be prepared for some boring ramblings ;)
