Title: We have set a date.
Post by: Elvenfyre on May 15, 2005, 11:57:31 am
Well actually there is no date set, more a very specific goal in order to show people that we're working on Cloudslayer! (just a little)

We've spent a lot of time working on a real motive for doing the game - which has I feel, given it a need to be created.

Our goal is to release a small, playable, winable.. demo of SSC - a portion so to speak - from a possible part from the middle of the game.

We have worked on storyline, but this will not contain so much of the real storyline, it's more a let's get off our arses and show them what SSC is.

Devlyn is doing all of the programming of course using BABS and making alterations on SMEE, which will help make BABS and SMEE better for everyone as well.

While I'm dedicating myself to A) bugging the living daylights out of him and B) drawing(badly) all the pictures needed.

It's going to be fairly slapdash, but the aim is a single quest, handful of battles and range of characters to meet that should be an enjoyable twenty minutes of your life.

All support during the next couple of weeks will be greatly appreciated, because as you all know, a word of support at the right moment can change someone from ignoring the project to working all that much harder on it.

PS: I am not wearing undies on my head.
PPS: Nor do I think I am any kind of amphibian, except sometimes when I get really excited about someone handing me their nunchucks I pretend to be michaelangelo of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, but they are a cartoon, and not real amphibians given they exist only in the metaverse.

You'll have to let me know when you've set a date and we can look into doing another joint release if you're interested :)

Excellent to see Cloudslayer getting the attention it deserves. Really top stuff :)

I think a good pack-in demo will definitely liven up the interest in both the engine and the game. And frankly, considering we're already quite a way that may not be a bad thing at all.

The demo will pretty much fully consist of original graphics, and if I make real solid progress on SMEE I might help Elvenfyre out as well with those.

But first I've got heaps of other stuff to add. Apparently there are more vital things missing than I thought ;).

I'm looking at the end of the week to finish my sprites, hopefully Devlyn will have SMEE working like a dream by then so I can spend next week on tiles and the maps while he does the BABS stuff.

So I'd say you'll see it released around mid december.  ;)

Update: progress is still happening.

I've started on the maps and Devlyns started updating code pieces, just so anyone following will know we haven't gone into hiding(yet).

I've just taken a few days off since I had most of my stuff completed first stage.  Devlyn has been working on the engine and has got me some of my needed things(party system, talking events in walkaround, etc) so we're still on track!

Well it's been a while, we haven't done anything.

What's happened?  As predicted we had a bit of a break, and I'm not sure when it's going to pick up again.  At the moment I'm focusing more on other things around here and we'll see when SSCS gets some more attention.

There are some key things like event flags (of a sort), a spell issue, the shop, better AI and the final tweaking for the gameline once those are in place.

Indeed. I'm quite sure I'm going to pick up my work again at some point, but for now I'm mainly focused on other things. However, any existing  material can be freely requested.

In addition I do have made some minor progress regarding the background setting in the last couple of weeks/months.

awesome - is it placed within our current world and stuff, or have some things been destroyed/replaced?

What's the biggest obstacle to completing SS:CS at the moment?

Development has stopped indefinitely on the game.

Given my recent need for java in training for a different kind of job, I feel it is time to reconsider my position on this.

Over the next couple of weeks I will be thinking about whether or not to complete the Lycadell campaign to the state I wanted it.  This would not mean a revamp or completion of the engine to a state where other campaigns can be made, but simply tweak and fix the code so that it works for this one campaign.

Do you have all the stuff you need for that? I guess you already have the source code and stuff right?

If you read the thread inside the private forum you'll see my request for your latest source code.

So although I do have source code, I don't believe I have the latest copy(although I might, it's better to be sure of that by getting your version off you).

After looking at the system, and at my timetable I've decided not to develop this for the time being.  I'm keen to do it, but time is really of the essence.
I'll revisit it midyear.

I'll be considering it around the 1st/2nd of july : )
I have 3 weeks where I've planned work but no study, so it is supposed to be a light load.

Thanks for the prod though..

No problemo ;).

If you need anything, just let me know :)

Nah, I just don't have it in me.  Time is precious, this is my only "break" all year and I'm working right through it.  At least I have time at the moment to see my friends etc without feeling guilty.

Great news, have a completed demo to share.
I need to do only 3 more things before I zip her up and put her in the news.

1] rejuvenate characters after battles(code).
2] copy the setting text into the intro image(external).
3] add different text to NPC's after you finish the campaign(external).
