Title: La Bonet version soixante-neuf!
Post by: Devlyn on January 04, 2007, 11:25:28 am
Or is it Bon'ee?

-Devlyn, who screws up his special characters on this machine :S

As is customary, here are some interesting questions to kick us off.

Do you pronounce it BONNET, BONNAY or BONNIE? Or do you have another idea? I'm a BONNAY man these days.

What are your plans for this weekend?

It's my birthday next week. How old do you think I am?

What's the worst sickness or accident you've ever had?

Can you come up with a solution for Dev's special characters problem?

I wanted to make this sticky so I had to reply again.

Damn BONET and its lousy rules!

Post by: Devlyn on January 04, 2007, 07:32:13 pm
I shall make it as sticky as a half a day old turd!

1) Bone-aye
2) Forum skinning :( It's looking a lot better at the moment.
3) How the hell am I supposed to know? :P
4) Losing my appendix. I miss that little guy. Alternatively, getting kicked in the knob by a pony was pretty painful too :(
5) Yes, here's the e you wanted Dev, and a few more: é ú í ó á €. Just copy and paste them whenever you need them :D

p.s. How do you know how sticky a half-day old turd would be? Perhaps there's some floating in your yellow water...

I didn't realise turds were sticky, to tell the truth.

Here's a version of the Blah that reminds me of this one:

Ah, the old Shining Online style phpBB. I seem to recall the one before that was black, and someone hotlinked the post images. Nothing changes, as someone was recently hotlinking the "Level l33t" userbar for his forum too. Not to mention that lovely lass on myspace nicking the ICQ icon.

I might steal that button layout.

Like we Dutch tend to say:

Better well-stolen than poorly crafted :P

Title: Re: La Bonet version soixante-neuf!
Post by: Newts on January 06, 2007, 07:44:28 pm
I like that saying so much I'm going to steal it.

I'm now trying to think of a good English turn of phrase, but can't. Can anyone else?

Title: Re: La Bonet version soixante-neuf!

You're too funny to be English.

These are pretty funny:
http://writingenglish.wordpress.com/2006/09/12/the-25-funniest-analogies-collected-by-high-school-english-teachers/

Nothing like a game of gutterturd at lunch time to make sure your enemies wind up with the brown sticky end of the stick.

The alt key and number pad combination would be best for Devlyns little problem.

Losing my ability to be a lying, manipulative bastard when I saw some kittens playing once.

This weekend I plan to move it move it.

I think you're as old as the mists of time.

I pronounce it with the stressed E and silent T.

I kinda like the new layout. Not so much the icons on the topics area but the layout brings back memories o' bratwurst.

Title: Re: La Bonet version soixante-neuf!
Post by: Ty on January 07, 2007, 07:13:13 pm
The forum isn't really finished yet, but the colours are quite similar to the old "Shining Online" theme we did so many years ago. Perhaps I'll add a history of blah to the main site history ;)

Two worms come out of the woodwork - the redesign is working already!

Those analogies are awesome, Elv - my favourite is the one about the hummingbirds, I think. I honestly wish I were as inventive as some of those kids, dagnabbit.

Here are some genuine answers from mock exam papers I marked once:

Give two ways in which the last sentence is linked to the first paragraph beginning "Face it, Dad, Romans are not cool"

A: beacause at the beggining they were like Oh I Hate romans and Now their like Yay romans!

In the first paragraph of the text, what does the use of the words probably, likely, yet and the phrase would be expected suggest?
A: that their not sure but they Have quite a good bet on it.

Q: Find and copy one abbreviation.
A: Magpies.

Apologies if I've posted these before, I just thought they were awesome enough to share again.

Perhaps writing the history of Blah could be a collaborative effort? I don't remember enough of it to write it, and the same probably goes for Dev due to his frequent Wheel of Morality posts :P

This board feels like home already, and with the new icons and everything, it's the best-looking Blah yet. Good work bruv!

lol did bratwurst spam get converted to bratwurst or is someone screwing with me? Also found a pretty nifty little story...

A baby girl is mysteriously dropped off at an orphanage in Cleveland in 1945. "Jane" grows up lonely and dejected, not knowing who her parents are, until one day in 1963 she is strangely attracted to a drifter. She falls in love with him, but just when things are looking up for Jane a series of disasters strikes: First, she becomes pregnant by the drifter, who then disappears. Second, during the complicated delivery doctors discover that Jane has both sets of sex organs, and to save her life, they most surgically convert "her" to a "him." Finally, a mysterious stranger kidnaps her baby from the delivery room.

Reeling from these disasters, rejected from society, scorned by fate,"he"becomes a drunkard and a drifter. Not only has Jane lost her parents and her lover, but he has lost his only child as well. Years later, in1970, he stumbles into a lonely bar, called Pop's Place, and spills out his pathetic story to an elderly bartender. The sympathetic bartender offers the drifter the chance to avenge the stranger who left her pregnant and abandoned, on the condition that he join the"time traveler corps." Both of them enter a time machine and the bartender drops the drifter off in 1963. The drifter is strangely attracted to a young orphan girl, who subsequently becomes pregnant.

The bartender then goes forward 9 months, kidnaps the baby girl from the hospital, and drops the baby off in an orphanage back in 1945. Then the bartender drops off the thoroughly confused drifter in 1985, to enlist in the time traveler corps. The drifter eventually gets his life together and becomes respected and elderly member of the time traveler corps, and then disguises himself as a bartender and has his most difficult mission: a date with destiny, meeting a certain drifter at Pop's Place in 1970.

Yep, the word "spam" is automatically changed to "bratwurst", because it seemed funny at the time. Speaking of bratwurst, maybe Shernal will appear from nowhere too. And let's not forget...

ALBERTO!

That story hurt my brain. At least, what's left of it.

I'll have to send Alberto a message on MySpace telling him to get his backside here.

Phill - don't ever badmouth the rules of the BONET again, or we'll get our patron saint, Paraguayan football wizard Carlos Bonet, to kick your ass.

Quick Google game - post here someone with a Ye Olde Blah-related name. I'll go first:

The green might make a comeback one day, maybe as an option for people to choose between blue & green. I've got plenty of more exciting things to be doing before that though ;)

Why didn't anybody reply to my tremendously interesting questions on the previous page? Read them now and answer them!

If not then that's cool too. As long as you post it's all good.

Phill - what's the journalism course like? Do they teach you interview technique and research as well as writing styles and stuff? I think I'd like to be a journalist some days, but then I suppose they have fewer games. Heads and tails really.

Newts: What are your plans for this weekend?

Seani: Well since next weekend is so far away plans are hard to come by but i do think im going to be recieving some money sometime during this week so i hope im getting a Wii this weekend

Newts: It's my birthday next week. How old do you think I am?

Seani: I'd say you are Twenty Five...but im probly wrong. You are sophisticated enough for thirty ;)

Newts: What's the worst sickness or accident you've ever had?

Seani: Sickness ive never been past a flu. Accidents however hehe: The neighborhood kids and i were riding bikes around when someone got the notion to craft a makeshift ramp constructed by laying a board ontop of a stack of 2x4's. We kept on adding more and more to the stack until we had run out of wood so then the next logical step was to increase the distance between the jump and the landing. We did this for a while until my fabled accident. I had taken the jump the best i could but the distance was just too far. My back tire (or Tyre) caught the topmost portion of the board and flung me and the bike headfirst into a flip that the bike and i managed to land on my back. With bike ontop of me i slid down the street for at least ten or fifteen feet. Wearing shorts at the time all of that distance was covered entirely ontop of my leg. I had scratched my leg from knee to ankle pretty badly and there was blood and everything. The solution to such a problem was to douse the wound in cream and just let it heal up, and so it did.

Newts: Can you come up with a solution for Dev's special characters problem?

Seani: I think perhaps Devlyn is not taking advantage of the cosmetic effects of peanut butter, and that should he choose to rectify that perhaps his special characters problem will see that he is a truly beautiful man and surrender.

Its really basic stuff at the moment (stuff I already learned because I took a class on it in highschool)

I'm hoping that it will get into better things, but right now we're just studying the basics (newspaper designs and such as well as dumb shit like "What is your favourite band?"

Its a general education requirement though (my college sucks and requires general education crap that has nothing to do with my major, creative writing)

Don't forget about Ye Olde Chat tonight, 8pm GMT!

Also, is anyone doing anything for Lent? I don't usually give stuff up for it, I try to use it more productively, so Hannah and I are on something of a health kick - walking every day, eating more healthily and so on. I'm also learning to read and write Japanese and hopefully not whinging so much. So far it's going okay, but I think the real test will be keeping it up this week when I'm working more.

Poor BONET :(

I need to get back on PSO soon, too. Haven't played for a week I think, but hopefully next time I give it a go I won't get disconnected every 5 minutes. That was annoying.

I've not been on PSO much at all recently either, although I did get a Fire Scepter: Agni and managed 3/4 of a Hard TTF run on my own, so that's quite good.

I'm playing on and on actually, I discovered an editor to hack the classes and progressions of all characters and monsters, which is great fun!

I think the one great thing about SF2 besides the story has to be the progression of the characters. Its the coolest thing to work towards. The best one in the game has to be when you promote Kazin and Slade, then your team become badass. Wish i could play SF3 so i can get more of an experience. Phill says its was pretty cool.

I'm about 3 chapters into SF:CD I think. I didn't really like the fact that it had no "proper" towns, but a lot of the battles were fun and interesting. I think I'm up to chapter 4 on SF3 as well, so I'll have to finish that some time this month.

Newts is taking is Saturn back next weekend, so I'll be starting Shining Force II instead. I don't think I've ever got further than the first chapter, which is a shame because I remember it being quite kick-ass. I'm itching to start coding Shining Online again, but there's another job I need to finish first. Hopefully once that's out the way I'll have a little more time and energy to get things moving again.

New laptop? Mine died at the start of May which made me very sad, but Newts has lent me his Turbo-Powered-Obelisk which seems to be able to compile anything within seconds. This makes me very happy.

Title: Re: La Bonet version soixante-neuf!

Well, actually the laptop is over a year old, but I just never got around to transferring everything, as the harddrive in my new laptop is smaller than that of my old PC. :P

So what does this Turbo-Powered Obelisk look like then? ;)

Title: Re: La Bonet version soixante-neuf!
Post by: Ty on August 09, 2007, 07:10:51 pm
It's a bit like this one (http://www.ciao.co.uk/Dell_Dimension_8400__5811314), except it has an LCD screen which is truly splendid to use - plus it's close to eye level, so my neck isn't as strained as it used to be. I'm starting to get past the "look at all the cool things I can do now" stage, so I'm getting quite a lot of work done. I'm not working on that project directly, but it will almost certainly benefit from what I'm doing right now.

Now that I have a joypad though, I'll have to add support for it in SO :P

I thought I'd miss the Obelisk more than I do, but there's no reason to use it without regular Internet access.

I completed Shining Force III: Scenario I the other day in a little over 25 hours, something of a speedy run. I probably missed quite a bit but I still did the important things - Barnard, Noon, Hell Dragon and pretty much everything else. Now I'm on Scenario II (using a paper translation :D) and can't wait to get stuck into it and get onto Scenario III!

Poor little Bonet :(

I'm back to adding stuff to the main site again. There's a huge amount of stuff to do, but hopefully it should be useful. Monster sprites are a particular pain, so I don't expect to have the complete set for quite some time. I have a couple of other surprises lined up though ;)

Two in a row, but the Bonet needed to feel some love from 2008 ;)

Unsticky it to be honest.  If it falls below the first page a new one can rise from the ashes.

Happy New Year Blahians :)

Happy New Beer!

There's gonna be a live action movie of Speed Racer this year. If anyone knows that 60s cartoon. What a strange cartoon tt was.

It's great to be back. The A level menace is over. I serve National Service for 2 years from this saturday onwards! Hopefully that will not prevent me from coming here often :)

I have a question to ask you Europeans over here.

Why does American beer suck? :P

And my dad likes Modern Talking, the german euro band of the 80s. Holy cow, he keeps playing their DVD every evening before he goes to work (nightshift)...

I'm quite dazed by how the singer just stares point blank into the screen without blinking while the guitarist goes into a hyperactive frenzy. I don't know how to explain. You need to see a video of these guys or sth.

I don't know why American beer sucks, but it's definitely not the nicest I've had. Luckily the future Mrs Ty lives near Orlando so they have a lot of British beers for tourists. Expensive, but much tastier than the watery stuff they usually serve.

Sonic Unleashed made me come here. I love it.

I also love Blah but I hate custard. What's up with that?
