1   Shining Winds might be returning to the roots.
Well, Sega may not lie, but Magic Box sure as hell can give misinformation  :x.

It's an action RPG in the vein of Shining Tears with a lot of the problems fixed. I regret this misinformation, but if you want more accurate information go to IGN.com.

To say the least, this has me peeved. I checked both extensively on Magic Box and Google, yet I still missed the article on IGN...

2   Shining Winds might be returning to the roots.
Aye, I know. I don't really know what to make of the real time battles thing. But Magic Box said "simulation", which on their website is the classification for strategy RPGs. I sat for a whole half hour deciding what to make of it lol.

I don't know. All I know is, my source said "strategy RPG". That must count for something, right?

Sega Anounces Shining Wind

Sega takes Shining back to it's roots with a new strategy RPG...

Sega has announced yet another Shining game for the PS2, called "Shining Wind". The latest title in Sega's attempt to revitalize it's classic RPG franchise, Shining Wind will be the first Shining strategy RPG on a console since Shining Force 3 on the Saturn.

The game will have a real time battle system, in which both the player's characters and enemies move around the battlefield, and engage in battle when they come in contact.

We will report more information as it becomes available, including any genre chances. Shining Force Neo was originally scheduled to be a strategy RPG, but changed direction early in development, becoming a Diable-esque action RPG instead. Heres hoping this title stays the course.

I have yet to try any of these Shining titles. But I might try this if it's anything like the older games.

The Patent Office does it again. Two new game names revealed.

The Patent Office probably reveals half of the big name titles these days. In this case, two new Shining titles, called "Shining Road", and "Shining Wind". As usual, there isn't much else known about these games, but one of these could be the mysterious "Shining Project Next" game that was revealed some weeks ago. We will have more info as it becomes available.

5   Shining Next Project Begins!
Shining Project Next Begins!

Fans of the Shining series will be happy to hear (or not) that yet another new title is in the pipeline, tentatively code named Shining Project Next.

Sega has been going all out with their fabled Shining franchise this past year. While not all of them have been met with critical acclaim, they have reinvigorated the series none the less. Now, Sega is planning to continue their expansion of the series with another game, currently code named "Shining Project Next". Sadly that's all the information available. Sega hasn't exactly pleased Shining fans as of late, as they changed the remake of their strategy RPG "Shining Force" into an action RPG, so perhaps this will bring the series back to its roots. Or perhaps it will take Shining into another direction, like the other none "Shining Force" games in the Shining series.

Currently, the only proof of the game's existance is an image on the Shining Tears website. Take a look and judge for yourself.

6   Shining Force is No More!
Quote from: "Devlyn"
By the way, nuckles: mind if I set this on the main page along with accompanying credits? Wink

Heck yeah!

I've been trying to get DcD back on it's feet for months now. It'd be great to have another one of our articles supported by you guys Wink.

7   Shining Force is No More!
Youch, thats a little harsh.

8   Shining Force is No More!
Not! Enter Shining Force Neo.

Bet that title gave you Shining Force fans a fright! But don't worry your poor heads, it's not a cancellation. Just a name change.

Sega's upcoming PS2 RPG, Shining Force, has been renamed "Shining Force NEO". However, it's gotten more then a minor name change. It's now in a whole different genre. Rather then the strategy RPG Sega had originally announced, NEO will now be taking an action oreinted angle.

Now, I am sure a lot of you Shining fans are going "What the $%&#!?". Well, let me explain. Well actually, let the producer, Youichi Shimosato, explain. In a recent interview with the Japanese game magazine Famitsu, Mr. Shimosato explained what drove his team to change the direction of the game. SF was originally meant to be a simulation/strategy RPG like the original Shining Force. However, the team felt it wouldn't be enough to just remake the original into 3D. At first, they considered making the game a real time strategy game. After a lot of thought and changes, Shining Force turned into an action RPG, and obtained the name "Neo".

Shining Force Neo will be very different from other Shining Force games. Max, the main character from the original Shining Force, will be the remain the primary character for Neo. Max can be equipped with four different weapons, each giving Max a different strategic ability. You can make him a knight, which will give him a sword in one hand and a shield in the other. This will enable boost Max's defence. Arming him with a bow will make him an archer, allowing him to deal strong attacks from a distance. Give Max a large, heavy blade, that requires him to use both hands to weild, and you will make him a warrior, able to take down multiple foes with a single deadly swipe. Lastly, the staff will turn Max into a sorceror, allowing him to use various magical spells, that change depending on the staff that is used. In addition to these weapons, Max wull also be able equip a "Force Frame", an add-on that will give a weapon more abilities when used. You can change the kind of powers your FF has by using Force Art symbols, which are powered up by the force energy of defeated enemies. In addition to all of these force based things, Neo will also have the standard RPG exeperience and level-up set up.

From the looks of it, Shining Force Neo is the first very promising game we've seen from Sega in awhile. This will definetly be more of an action based affair, but will that turn out to be good or bad? Only time will tell. Sega has some very strong voice talent behind the game and has many veteran developers working on the game. So with any luck, Shining Force Neo will live up to it's namesake. We shall see when the game arrives in Japan, March 24th.

Shining Force Neo will be released as a manga comic in next months issue of the japanese magazine Magazine Z to help promote the game. It will follow it's own storyline, but will contain the same world and characters of Neo.

Well, that is all for now. And I managed to get through the whole thing without cracking a Star Wars based force joke. 'Til next time, may the shining force be with you!

9   New Age of Shining Force!
Sega Plans New Shining Force

  Sega's Shining Force Revival

Sega has been starting a Shining Force revival of sorts, announcing Shining Force and Shining Tears for PS2, and releasing Shining Soul 2, and the Shining Force remake "SF: Resurrection of the Dark Dragon" on GBA. Now, Sega has announced that there will be yet another Shining Force released.

"The new history of the Shining series starts today," Takezaki said. "We've also begun planning for the next-next game (the fourth release)." He explained that he hopes to see no long breaks between future releases in the series, so that fans can keep following it on a regular basis.

So Shining Force fans, you can expect to see a lot more of your favorite RPG series later this year. For those of you new to the series, Shining Force was a strategy RPG released for the Genesis, and later the Saturn and the Game Gear. There have also been several spin offs to the series, the latest being two action RPGs, Shining Soul and Shining Tears.

We will have more information as it becomes available.

10   More news on the upcoming Shining games!
It has recently been revealed on the front banner of the currently under construction site, Shining World (which appears to have been taken down) that two next gen Shining games are in development: Shining Force and Shining Tears. Both games are currently scheduled for release on PS2 only.

Shining Force will be in the vein of the past strategy based Shining Force games, and will be released in 2005. Shining Tears however, will be an action RPG (not an MMORPG, like I had speculated before this info was available), like the GBA's not so famed Shining Soul games. Shining Tears will be released in the fall of 2004. Couple that with the GBA's upcoming Shining Soul and Shining Force sequels, it looks like Sega is bringing back the Shining series in full force. The two PS2 games will be developed by none other than Sega's Amusement Vision (now composed mainly of Smilebit staff, since Sega's game studio restructuring), of Super Monkey Ball and Panzer Dragoon Orta fame.

So looks like there won't be any MMORPGs based on SF.

We will have more info on these games as it becomes available.

11   Sega Opens up Shining World Website
Well, normally  I'd post this on DcD first, but since I've been getting in trouble for not just posting "big news" I'll just post it here first till I get permission from the boss. Anyway...

As the title states, Sega has opened up a new website, called "Shining World". The offical opening will be April 30th, 2004. Till then, we get this cool picture:

As you can tell from the picture, three new Shining games are coming our way, two Shining Force games (one presumably for the GBA), and Shining Tears. Little else is known about these titles, even what console they will be on, (with the exception of Shining Force: RotDD for GBA). The other Shining games could very well be either the MMORPG Sega announced a few months ago, or an all new, original Shining adventure. Either way, this has left us with a lot to anticipate come E3.
