Today I was working on a formula to calculate how much potato you can eat in one go. I haven't got it here because I need to introduce a few more variables, but it's quite a good formula that needs a little tweaking.

I used maths (gasp) to work out the following:

If you had ?53 million in ?10 notes, and you stacked them under your matress, how high would it be?

I can't remember what the exact number was, but it was quite high. About 300 metres if I recall correctly.

I never knew maths would bring me a small amount of happiness.

I really should stop starting sentences with "I".

Here's my first attempt at calculating a "potato tolerance level." Note it's not a quantity of potatoes you can eat without feeling ill, but rather a value which determines a threshold, if you like.

Pv - volume of potato in grams.
C - quantity of condiments, drinks or other accompaniments in ml.
X - natural taste for potatoes expressed as an integer between 0 and 10.
A - quality of potato as an integer between 1 and 10.
E - how well the potato is cooked expressed as an integer between 0 and 10 (integer is my favourite mathematical term)
T - temperature of potato in ?C.

Remember I'm not a mathematician or a scientist, so these will all be wrong. Still, it's only a bit of fun.

PT = (X (AE x square root T) + C) / Pv

For example, a small quantity of well-cooked potatoes will result in a very high tolerance level, but a large quantity of poorly-cooked, mostly unaccompanied potatoes will leave you with a very low potato tolerance level.

I think we could also use this formula to determine:

The optimum temperature for potatoes to be served;
The perfect accompaniment, e.g. cheese, butter, tuna or other filling;
How much of each accompaniment is required to give you the highest possible PT without overpowering the potato.

There is much research to be done in the field of potato tolerance.

I had a very weird dream.

I cut my arm off.

My arm was .. well, sort of frozen.  Sort of?  Yeah .. . the blood didn't come pouring out.  My arm wasn't cold though, but it was solid and numb right at the place I cut it off.

Also I think I cut it off quite easily, with like a knife or something, the bone didn't seem to matter hah!

So I jumped in the shower and like a meat popsicle, the blood very slowly thawed and ran with the water.  I then cut off my tongue.  Not quite totally - it was still joined a little bit on one side.

Getting worried about how the stump of my arm was thawing, I got out of the shower and went and grabbed my arm with the other hand, it too was thawing, oh no!
Asking this maternal figure there to take me to the Accident and Emergency center she simply looked at me and said "oh no it's been 15 minutes already there's no way they can re-attach it now."
I got quite upset trying to tell her I could still ghost feel my hand so I must be able to re-attach it, however my tongue was cut off, so I couldn't get the message across.
The distress got higher and higher as she denied me a couple more times and then I woke up, telling myself never to cut off my arm.

Dear Newts,

I think you are a smashing guy and you make me laugh all the time.  You must be a good teacher, I don't see how someone who cares so much and has so much talent couldn't be.  Please don't give up on it, teachers are our most valuable asset aside from the children themselves.  Every teacher brings something unique with them, figure out what yours is and exploit it, because kids could do without sheeplike tendencies.
Lastly and most importantly, I want to make an offer that you leave the classroom between 2 and 2:30 pm tomorrow afternoon to do some photocopying.  Sean will bring the pipe of justice and I will bring the keyboard of doom and you won't have to worry about the troublemakers for at least a week until they get out of hospital.

ps: if you haven't seen Dead Poets Society, be careful, you could end up crying again.

My knee. . .hurts.

Today is Friday at 3pm.
On Sunday night I stayed up all night to work, and then I went to my mates place to watch Barcelona vs Arsenal.  I caught the bus, and had to run to get it.  I think perhaps this was when I hurt my knee.  I  can't really tell because it didn't actually hurt.  Being overtired and running is the closest I can think of, you see by the time I had gotten home, had a sleep and woken up, my knee was hurting just a little bit.
Kind of like... a small bruise under the knee cap.  It only bothered me going down stairs and then it was only caused a nudge of pain, so I favoured my other leg.
I didn't go for a run that day, however I did go for a 30 minute walk, the rest of the day I would have been sitting or sleeping.  No real issues, just the stair thing.
Tuesday my knee was a little worse, I had a similar walk but this time I had to hurry, hurrying made it hurt.  wincing pain.
Playing a bit of hacky sack my knee didn't hurt at all that i noticed.  It seems to be when I bend it and apply weight at a certain angle, which I was careful not to do.
Wednesday I was limping down the stairs.  Another 30 minute walk, no real trouble, but I could feel the pain there walking just a little bit.
Thursday I was trying to keep weight off my foot.  Walking around the house made it feel sore, like a bruise under my knee was getting roughed up by it.  No walks/runs.
Today it has been 48 hours since I went for a walk on wednesday, and it's FAR FAR worse.
I woke up and it hurt straightening my leg in bed.
I can't get across the room without fear of futher damaging it, so i'm using furniture as crutches(which is rather fun I have to admit).

Now it seems almost as if whatever holds my knee together isn't doing it's job properly.  I have been able to stand on my own a couple of times today, but walking makes me feel like my knee will collapse the wrong way(an ugly thought).

How can this happen?  How can my knee have become worse over the last 48 hours when I've either been sleeping or sitting at my computer?

Nothing in my environment has changed from normal.  Perhaps I need to change the angle of my computer chair so my leg is straight until it gets better?

Moreover: if it gets so bad I can't get from the house to a taxi, am I allowed to call an ambulance?  Cheesy

I'm lucky I work for myself because I'm pretty sure my boss wouldn't buy the fact my knee magically has gotten worse by sitting around.

Ater periods of advanced atrophy, physical injury is more likely. Smiley
A little help for the diagnose:

Thanks mate!  I did indeed take a look at that.

I was worrying quite a bit about my ligament by the end of it.

However I have good news.  My stubborn nature paid off and my knee miraculously improved.  Now it's at the stage where I can walk around without any worries.  I'm still taking care on the stairs and not doing any running until it's 100%, but at least I am mobile.

No idea how it got worse, no idea how it got better.

I guess I should be checking out who could have been hitting me in the knee with something while I sleep. . . and why they would stop!

I'm jealous that everyone gets to be Shining Hair or whatever. I have good hair - should I not be appreciated for it?

Also, as if I would click a link called "A Sticky Night of Love" recommended by a Dutchie
