Normally I would be the last to make a topic about this. I'm guessing the title makes you go "Not again", or "Haven't we heard enough about this?". I thought the same, but today I read the extracts from conversations passengers made before the crashes, and it's really quite sobering. Makes you think about the actual people involved.

The man who called his Dad from flight 175 is particularly poignant.

Do you think constantly hearing about his has de-sensitised people as to what happened? Has it become just a date or election bullet point?

I know I'm guilty of just seeing it as a date and pointless excuse for everything.

The problem is that it is used as an excuse for everything.
The Bush administration has used 9/11 for everything from raising taxes, to creating invasive big brother laws (patriot act) to invading Iraq.
Anyone who uses 9/11 as a reason for anything loses credibility in my eyes.

Does it really matter ? No one will go against Americas "War" on "Terrorism", even us in the UK do nothing to stop our stupidly blind actions via Tony Blair of following George Bush like a puppy dog.

Its a double edged sword so to speak, yes something has to be done about the terrorism, but Bush useing 9/11 as an excuse to invade Iraq and then STAY there for a prolonged time is bullchit... while yes, he did catch Sadam, great wheee! Now then, can we remove our troops outta there before we have an unholy upriseing and have to deal with Iraq as a whole and not just Sadam? Then as what was said about raiseing taxes and so forth, yes that was just a stupid reason...

Coming at you, with a marshmellow warped mind!

Yea, you wouldn't want to deal with the responsibility of fixing the mess the country has been through since the US troops first arrived, now would you?

Part of the US mission WAS to make Iraq a clean democracy, if you move away now and leave the country rot you will be there again in ten years to clean up Al-Sadr (sp?) or whoever else grabbed control.

No no I mean they keep sending more and more troops there... my friend who joined the marines 2 years ago is getting sent there this year...  If they leave some troop there fine, and switch em out every now and then great, but they keep a fairly large quantity of troops in there... I understand that their like a new born and need protection and what not, but hell... we got enough troops in there to do a small invasion on another country... LOL its just stuipd.... But Im not completely aginst protecting Iraq and what not... But even the Iraq people want us out of there too... and we was supposed to already be out of there a while ago anyhow but bush kept putting it off... *sigh* anyway /wave laters... gotta go do chores and get cleaned up for work lol

Its already shaping up to be another Veitnam, in my Cambridge interveiw I was asked about this. The proffessor thought that it was going to be another 'nam, and that people should listen to Historians more ^ ^

Insert pretentious signiture here.

I doubt it'll be another Vietnam. I think Iraq will rather turn out to be a second Israel, with structural violence...

I guess so. The original event has long by forgotten and replaced by the political issue that has been made of it Tongue.
