I implemented the first parts of Land Effect in SSC today, and I wondered what you guys think of the numbers associated with the terrain type. Are they realistic?
Plains:
1.1 move point per tile
Forest:
1.3 move point per tile
+5% melee miss chance
+15% missile miss chance
Hills:
1.8 move point per tile
+10% melee miss chance
+5% missile miss chance
Roads:
1.0 move point per tile
-5% melee miss chance (roads make charging so very convenient, you know? )
Desert:
1.8 move point per tile
+10% melee miss chance
+5% missile miss chance
This is all open for suggestions and input, but I am probably going to hardcode it into Smee, to prevent weird clashes with different maps from different people .
Feel free to give me your opinion on this. Should land affect more things than movement and miss chance in your opinion?

t's not like I really care
I"m not sure if it"s suitable but IMHO does values should be heavily influenced by the character class of the combatants:
Like flying creatures don"t get a movement malus, but a heavier decrease in woods.
Next to that a question could be if one shouldn"t distinguish between attack and defense:
e.g. it"s easier to attack on roads but much harder to defend.
Besides does ideas I think the overall behavior is quite "realistic" or rather playable :-)

Does not miss chance depend both of the type of tyle on which the attacker stands, and the type of tile on which the attackee (if I may say so) stands?

I was wondering about that myself, but I felt that would be too unrealistic. After all, it makes much more sense that combat takes place on the defender's terrain instead of on the exact border of the two different terrains .
The movement values point raised by bEn is a very good one, and I do intend on adjusting it for some creatures. However, assume that these values are for ordinary humans .
Also, some of the land effect miss chances may vary per race (for example, elves will likely be better at shooting arrows in forests ).
