1   just, wow!
hey guys, not sure if anyone will remember me at all here, (i was the 'noob' who knew absoloutely nothing and kept popping up asking for tips and help every now and again Tongue)

all i wanted to say was wow really, i havent been around on any shining website for a long time now, but just quickly doing a tour of the old sites (well, just this and sfc) and i have to say great work to everyone here who are still working their hardest at creating great fan games, i've heard some demos have been released, which is fantastic.

Although i have yet to try them, (i definately will sometime over the next few days) i just really wanted to say well done to all the people that are still working hard, and i really hope that nobody gives up on projects that are looking really nice.

i had no idea where to place this, so im sorry if its in the wrong area and is going to be removed, but i just wanted to say well done, thanks, and peoples work is appreciated Smiley

2   Re: Dark Resurrection (Screenshots) updated: april 8th 2008
haven't posted around here for ages (so much so that i forgot my username) as everything started to seem dead, no updates were happening on any game and everything looked a little... well, over.

But Peter some of these screens kick ass, i can only imagine how much time you have invested to this great project, this site sort of got me into programming and i'm well on my way to making my first shining style game thanks to the people here, so it's nice to see someone really doing great things, just hope you keep on going Peter, too much good work to waste by stopping (not saying you will but so many projects do.) brilliant stuff, keep up the good work  Grin

3   Re: vb help?
thanks for the links Elvenfyre, they look to be pretty good.. although might be a couple of months before i can get stuck in due to my current noob-ish ness. either way, they look to be very helpful (if anyone else has any feel free to post Smiley)

4   vb help?
hello everyone Smiley

Haven't been around in a long while, but i thought this may be the place to come when i have a few questions...

I've started learning visual basic (for the past few months, in school and at home) and have made a few basic applications like a calculator, a notepad, a drawing package, a system for randomly picking lottery numbers, a game of noughts & crosses/tic-tac-toe, and a few others (i used a tutorial website for the vast majority of these)

the prolbem is, however, that the tutorials on the website have run out, and now i have nothing to further my learning, i'm currently only using single user forms, and haven't used any images, sound, animation or anything of the sort, just simple functions within visual basic.

The question i have, is does anyone know of a good website, or some good free resource thtat i can use, i don't mind it with just code snippets or whatever, but the only thigns i can find are either on vb 6.0 (which is still useable, just slightly awkward) or masive jumps in my learning (code for creating rpg's or fps's, which i am nowhere near capable of completing yet.

I learn alot better by using functions and processes in examples (such as simple games/applications) rather than just using them by themselves without much real meaning, any help or direction appreciated. Smiley

5   java?
hello again everyone.. sorry for all the questions but i have a new one Tongue

i've messed around with C# sharp for a while.. but found a lack of tutorials and lessons or an easy way of getting into beggining to make games.. i played around with flash for a month too.. just to get used to it, but i want to try out java.. coz' i've heard it's one of the easiest languages to get early results from and very useful for game developing.. only problem is, i don't really know what i need to get started (all the c# stuff was already on my comp) if someone could just list everything (as if im a four year old who doesn't know what you are talking about) that i need to download would be very grateful.. as i'm kidna confused by all the compiler environment stuff.. and i don't have a clue what i need to get started.. thanks xx

6   Re: Best programming language for begginers??
never heard of ruby or pyton, just getting into my creative side and learning how to use flash atm  Tongue

7   Re: any C# Users out there?
no problem Ty, i somehow sorted it out yesterday so it's all good thanks for the continued help and support  Smiley much appreciated.

8   Re: LGU Newsletter
Just started playing and doing the tutorial for it... looks really good, very excited  Tongue

Match report:

In their managers absence the newly formed shining rangers set off to a disastarous start, lined up to play Lockwood FC in the cup, with no manager to back them up or give any kind of formation help, were surely doomed. 4-0 by the 16th minute.. and final score 0-8 to lockwood FC, with a possesion ratio of around 90%.

thnigs can only get better from here. fingers crossed.

9   Re: Marvel Movies
i haven't seen the spiderman trailer yet but i have to agree the pic ive seen look amazing, and sliver surfer (if it's done right) is gonna be priiiity good too  Smiley

10   Re: any C# Users out there?
hit a massive problem today.. spent about an hour trying to figure out how to fix it, but i'm still only a begginer after all... i'm making an rss reader (with the help of some tutorial videos that offer small snippets of info while you do the main bulk of the work yourself) and everythings fine except i made a new mdf.. and have various tables and the such.. but in one of them i meesed up the input of data (that i was using as a test) and the ID number jumped after the error message... so now all my ID numbers are messed up. i deleted all the test data i put into it but the ID number is still rising (in the 40's now i think) and i don't know how to start the ID number from the begging again without deleting the whole table... any ideas on how to fix this? would be a great help, thanks x

11   Re: any C# Users out there?
thank you solmyr, your way worked and now it's alot easier finding errors and the such Smiley thanks for the fast response much appreciated.

12   any C# Users out there?
i realise this is more programming, but it's also aid so i decided to post here, i was wondering, i'm getting to grips with C# quite fast and am working on a very small project atm. a little thing though is i just wondered if someoen could explain how i get the line numbers alongside my code? as when i get an error message saying line 59 is messed up would be nice if i could easily scroll up/down and check the surrouning stuff. any helps appreciated.

13   Re: Online Gaming Communities
sounds really good, especially as your all completely devastating by the sounds of things Tongue one question though, will it run on my quite weak computer?? i have got a graphics card, but can't run next gen games, i can run ff11 (not that i have it anymore Sad) so will this game be alrite to play?

14   Re: Online Gaming Communities
sounds pretty kl, i never played phantasy star.. what's it like?

and concerning the topic i think how good an online game is comes down to how good the community is, if it's the best graphics, best concept for gameplay etc. but then no-one ever helps you and you're constantly being abused and annoyed the games pointless.

gms of online games should be more strict when concerning their gaming population and give anyone who is just a prick the boot.

15   Re: Dark Resurrection - Beta Test
woah, just got to say everythings looking really good can tell you've thought alot about this.
and the thought of a buddy system makes me realise just how much attention to detail you seem to be using. i like it, excellent work.
