I'm sure your SF:TA will be in 3d too, but i'll use every aspect an 3d rpg must have. 3d towns, 3d characters, camera rotating, etc...

Don't talk about things you don't know... at least we can already present real 3D......

bEn i'm not trying to compete with you or something, so cut it out. You are right I have no 3d so far. But I started this project... like... 3 days ago. I'm still at the planning. The only thing I have programmed is the item editor.

Noma: See my other post in your thread.

To make it short - you sound like a noob, behave like a noob and smell like a noob and that noob bashes something I have been working on for a year in those rare free minutes I have - it's not like I have to like you or the other way round.

t's not like I really care

Hey,
Am big time shining forces 2 fan, have been playing that game since I was like 10.  If you guys want to recreate the game, why reinvent the wheel?  You are saying "Create a game engine, then a game", why not skip step 1?  There are plenty of rpg games out there to modify, they have "mod" kits which you can download and create your own wonderful games.  Same amount of work - yes, much better final product - yes.
Just a suggestion, but if any of you know anything about game modding, you should look into it.

  Thanks,
                AA

Well basically it is that you can't skip step one even when you use a modable engine as there is no game that is like SF with a good modkit - the most similar one was fallout and that ones modkit was really bad for enhancing the gameplay. Other games like Unreal would cause the same effort as creating a new game from the ground as you would have to adjust the whole gameplay (Unreal has nothing in common with SF) so you can stay with your own tools.

Somehow the same problems appeal to the promising Neverwinter Nights. Another thing might be that with a mod people must own the game that should be moded which limits the audience very much.
Last but not least many of the developers here use their games to enhance their own programming capabilities.

This ends up to - there hasn't been the perfect mod kit that would have converted us to its followers - as there hasn't been the engine that everyone would use....

Hey,
Guys I work with an engine of a cool game called Dungeon Siege ( http://www.gaspowered.com/ds1/index.shtml ) and there are some incredible games in the works with that engine.  Infact, I originally wanted to make a SF game with this engine ( because it wouldn't be that hard at all ) but I don't do the least bit of art, so I decided there was no point for me to start because the project would require massive amounts of art work ( though all the tools required are available ).  I really wish I had of found artists long time ago, heh.
Incase anyone is interested though, Dungeon Siege has a party system and is one of the most moddable games available, I have completely altered the entire workings of the engine several times.  It's a good one.

  Thanks,
                 AA

Hey,
It is, but to be honest, I can make that game do anything I want.  Like I said, it's completely moddable, I can change every aspect of that game.  Infact, the game even has a human male and female model, and dwarven male model already as playable characters.  I have had a centaur built for the game as well.  *shrugs*
It appears no one really has an interest in this though, sorry.

  Thanks,
               AA

Most people here already have their own projects, and we're not exactly overflowing with members at the moment so it might take a while to get interest (plus you might get more if you don't hijack someone's thread Wink)

Hey,
Oh, sorry if my intentions were mis - interpreted . . .  I was just giving ideas to the guy who started the thread.  He said he wanted to make shining 3d game, I was just offering the suggestion to try not creating a whole new game engine.  Sorry once again if I was coming across otherwise  Sad

  Thanks,
