Racism and Multiculturalism
I've been reading and schooling myself in the area of racism.
I'm not going to cry "everybody is equal" because racism is more or less, a primal instinct used for identification purposes. Secondly, racism, the jealous kind, i believe, is somewhat innate and must be combated by education of the mind.

But i'm not here to give a philosophical summary. Racism exists everywhere but in different forms. I would like to know how bad racism is in your country and in what form it exists. Also, your opinion towards mutliculturalism.

For example, in Singapore, there's a a fucked up mindset looking down on bangladeshis (most of them our road cleaners, garbage disposal ppl, road sweepers) and filipinnos (most of them are here as maids). Then the dominant Chinese race here, tends to exhibit a superiority complex over its Malay and especially Indian counterparts. This is especially a sensitive issue because Singapore is historically Malay land. Sort of like how America is Native American (the term Red/Native Indian has been eliminated after trials in America) and how Whites dominate America, demographically. At the same time, the Chinese have contributed significantly to the economic and political arena and the development of the country. Singapore is multi-cultural, so along the way, we lost our identity as a land. So what did our Prime Minister do? Create his own Singaporean Identity. However, I see increasing "Chinesification" of Singapore, especially with China now on the rise as a economic power. So, that multiracial identity is under threat, and there's a misconception that we're a  province, state or worse, a place IN China. So, multiculturalism is slowly eroding Singapore's identity but it isn't something THAT bad.

I've been very interested in racism, and even more so, anti-racism. And with White Power movements and similar racist movements profilerating in Australia, Europe and the West, (actually anywhere but its much more organised in those places when u talk about race specifically), i would like to know your insight. Especially things like organised groups in ur area like White Power skinheads and Soccer Hooliganism. I absolutely hate monkey chants.

btw, i firmly believe in anti-racism but i do believe in racial consciousness and racial pride. I would prefer the term, ethnic pride because race is a broad category. But i don't endorse the view that multiculturalism is dangerous. However, the people at www.anus.com, Varg Vikernes from Burzum (National Socialistc Black Metal) do have their points when they mention that we have gone from producing beethovens to britney spears. Ok i'm a bit lost as to what i want to say at this pt of time so i'll just shut up and post.

Too PC for me.  As long as you check up on yourself every now and again, you can't do much more than that.

Racial pride is the bad thing.  Ethnic pride is the good thing.

Race is a touchy issue no matter where you are in the world i should think.
In America its pretty bad for everyone, seems like its a curse to be White.

Here's my point:
In America the white population seems to be the 'evil overlordish' figure of the melting pot and we unfortunately miss out on lots of benefits and extra perks due to our race. My arguement is that if a college were to refuse an application by a white person it would be the end of it, no other options for you other than to find another institution. If you were black however that's a completely different story. You could fight it, claim that the college is racially discriminating you because you are black and there are groups that exist soley for the purpose of getting you the black man into college (United Negro College Fund and the like). If you create enough of a stink about the issue chances are your going to be let in and not only that but be a sort of celebrity in your race.
Is that right? Is it fair? just because im white my failures and shortcomings in life are just accepted but yet another race's isnt? That's double standards...

I think ethnic pride is a good thing but should be done in such a way, just like religion. Its kinda rude for anyone to force their culture onto you, but an open forum of exchange where everyone's cultures are represented and enjoyed is a perfect scenario. Its important to be abreast of how the world works and how everyone is so different, it keeps you humble.

Ahh. That's a good pt Seanikins. You're right, white people are misrepresented. And the thing abt other races making a mess in order to justify their failure, that's another interesting point. It's like how feminism led to a liberation of women but now it has degenerated into pure irritation at times.

Have u watched this Geraldo (American 80s talkshow) episode abt White Power skinheads? Its on youtube and its interesting and pretty funny at times. It even ended up in a fight between racist and anti/non-racist skinheads live, with the host, Geraldo, ending up with a broke nose Tongue
The show continued after the racists were evacuated.

Race is indeed a touchy issue. But the racism i see in Singapore is pretty mild. Little or no violence. Even if there is, again its very mild. So i get curious abt how bad racism is in other parts of the world. I mean, sometimes the media inflates the truth. But i know in some parts of the world, like Russia, especially in Moscow, violent racism is prevalent. However, it could be media inflation.

And if there's another ethnic cleansing ever again, i would be one of the first to go because i'm half chinese half indian! But i lean more towards my indian side.

Over here we absolutely hate each other, you don't even have to be of foreign ethnicity, especially if one of us is Welsh.
