Well I am not sure if it is first battle only - but I could repeat it during the first battle on both systems - emu and GBA.
->Selected German Language
->started new game
->entered first battle
->cast egress after some turns
->bang the game was dead
I would blame the emu (btw using visual boy advance) if it wasn't on the game cartridge/GBA aswell....

I got this game earlier (as well as Shining Soul II) for ?20, so expect my impressions to be added just as soon as I get my GBA working properly

Ive already ended the game,And loved it compared to the original SF,It was realy cool making more animations and i just loved rising Karsha ^^
