School of rock is surely film of the year. Jack Black rules, this film rocks.

Why give an oscar to LOTR when these kids not only acted like they've been doing it for years, they put on a rockin show as well! Its a fact that all the kids in the film do actually play their own instruments. So getting them all to work in harmony and add to the hilarity of this excellent comedy is a true spectacle of directing mastery.

I recommend the YoB masses doth path its judgement hence upon thee School Of Rock upon thee holy shrineth of YoB Smiley

I've seen that movie when it first came out...

I hate to go against your review, but I honestly didn't think it was all that good. A lot of the pun lines seemed to be rather forced (not actually funny because they were too obvious) and if you don't like Rock music at all, you might not even understand a lot of them. The guy did play his role well, but I'm afraid to say it's more of a family movie... it might be fun for kids and the like, but to me it seemed rather childish.

Then again, I do tend to take things too seriously so just ignore me Wink.

The Return of the King was given eleven Awards in the eleven categories for which it was nominated. I was actually sad enough to look them up as well, but not quite sad enough to type them all up, so just go here.

And, just for the record, my resident film-reviewer-know-it-all-type person (Hannah Tongue) reckons School of Rock is better than Lord of the Rings. I've not seen School of Rock, but how can it beat a film where the word "Hobbit" is used so freely?

I haven't seen LotR, so I can't make a comparison Wink.

Well I guess LotR is a great movie if you can stand Fantasy movies.
But to like School of Rock you have to either like either rock music (if you are a fan of classic rock music you will LOVE the movie - best movie since rockstar) or little kids in a comedy .... probably a reason why girls might like it.

Nevertheless I wouldn't compare it to LotR...well let's do it anyway, and to be objective we leave the rock music and "finally somebody films LOTR yeah i read lotr 10.000 times" effects where they belong... at home ;-)

Story
Well to make it quick - lotr is a book milllions read, the story of School of rock is welll to obvious it's the typical "Loser tries to make it, fails and wins anyway in the end". Like the average comedy. Come on even Adam Sandler was as creative. Add kids and rock guitars to happy gilmore and it wouldn be that diferent
(Lotr ++) (SoR 0)

Visuals:
well the smoke effects of  the near dead van are great but still I would say the costumes, CG effects and stuff in Lotr are a bit better
(Lotr ++) (SoR 0)

Music:
I like rock music so SoR scores here and the Lotr music is just average - believe me once you listened to the soundtrack alone you will believe me.
(SoR ++) (LotR 0)

Comedy:
A close one as IMHO the dwarf jokes in LotR are really funny. Nevertheless Joe Black rules so he wins here:
(SoR ++) (LotR +)

Finally:
LotR wins 5:4 , it was close but in the end rock music alone doesn't make a winning movie. Hard decision in the end as I watched School of rock more often then all LotR movies together... bout a dozen of times. BTW for those of you that don't know Joe Black - watch MTV and wait for a Foo Fighters clip - the fat guy that never played with Nirvana, that's Joe Black

t's not like I really care
