Tactical question: Wingers
As you may have read in the other topic, I'm looking for a new winger. My main goal that I want to achieve is to get a better attack... for now on one, but eventually for both wings. Since there's some people here who are pretty good with tactics, I'm hoping you can help me with this.

When I'm looking to improve wing attack (you can see the two wingers I'm using now in the other topic... solid winger / passable-solid passing), where should I start? I know there is a lot of gain to be found with offensive wing backs (I train defenders, so I could buy accordingly... they can be expensive, doesn't matter, I'll make it back in the long run), but what kind of skill would I need most in a wing back? Defending obviously, I don't want to leave a gaping hole in my defense as it'd surely be punished in my league.

So what do I need then... a guy with high defense AND high winger? Do I need passing as well to make him useful offensive, or does the winger quality alone make up for most of the offensive strength? I know they need stamina, but what else is important?

Or... should I look the other way, and do I need Wingers to improve my attack further rather than Wing Backs? As you can see my wingers are pretty offensive already with their side stats, and to improve my attack further I feel like I'd need to spend a LOT of money to get a noticable difference. So I tend to think wing backs would be the way to go for me, correct me if I'm wrong please Wink.

In short, here's the main question again: If I want to improve my attack ratings, what qualities do I need in a wing back?

Thanks in advance for any help you can give Smiley.

Tactical question: Wingers
I just looked in my list and thought this guy might do:

Quote
Carlos Galv?n
TSI = 3 950 (395 000 ?) , 20 years, inadequate form
Has wretched experience and inadequate leadership abilities

Stamina:   weak     Keeper:   disastrous
Playmaking:   poor     Passing:   solid
Winger:   passable     Defending:   excellent
Scoring:   weak     Set Pieces:   poor

If I train his stamina a little, what do you think? I've tried him a few times and my defense dropped to formidable which I wasn't too happy with, but for some matches I can afford to only have formidable defense on a wing. What would a guy like Carlos need to make my attack better? Would improving his Stamina make a big difference?

Improving stamina wouldn't help much. Also, his passable winger seriously impacts his capabilities. I doubt he'll make much mor than 2.5 stars as offensive winger...

However, he may prove to be a very good defensive winger Smiley.

(yea, he's pretty good as defensive winger though, about to get sold once he advances again, which should be in a few weeks Smiley).

If you want attack ratings then you should focus on wingers rather than wingbacks. It's hard to have offensive wingbacks perform well because winger only accounts for 25% of their star rating, defense is much more important. For example, i have a wingback who's near-magnificent in winger ability but has only weak defense, and even when he is in solid form the best he does as an offensive wingback is three stars, though he does help raise my wing attack from supernatural to extra-terrestrial.
If you get a good winger, then you won't need an offensive wingback. You'll likely play that winger offensively, so you'll need more passing than playmaking. With one million you could probably get a formidable winger with inadequate-passable passing and weak-inadequate PM. It's also best to buy wingers with Quick or Head ability because they can generate special events. My best quick winger sets up about two goals a game for me. Also, you might consider an offensive coach. Coaches have a huge effect and can really make your attack/defense much better. Since you are training defense you probably are better off with an offensive coach.
