Very broad topic subject...for a very broad thread...

I was talking over teamspeak to my friend Devfrag..someone who i game with alot and who has proved to be a very valuable friend about a Utopian Society..and why it wouldnt work.
Well it got me thinking..about lots of things..take motivation for evolution for instance. Many of the mothers and fathers of invention were toiling with their creations to make things that seemed impossible possible. Such as the telescope and so on..however most advances seem to have been for a negative purpose..such as war. If you get down to the nitty and gritty having an edge over the enemy in war is imperitive..so science and invention tends to thrive during this period.

So we make some of our greatest advances under 'bad' or negative pressure due to the situation. That got me thinking about social structure, we've all got to despise someone..sadly the poor or lower class seem to have that job and for reasons they can barely control...Hygene would be the leading cause for the moderate to heavy hatred and resentment..if they were clean and wearing nice clothes we would never question wether or not they were poor..you know?
So we strive to not be like these poor unfortunate souls..we try to be powerful! to be above everyone!
Now not only do we choose to ignore a portion of our fellow species just because they're having hard times, but we also compete with eachother for power, and that can be power of any kind..military, economy, job, house, kids...emotional stability...whatever it may be.

I just find it odd that we try to be better than eachother so much (at least in good olde capitalist US) and that if we lived in a 'perfect' society with no need for law, rules, or opinions..we wouldnt have made such great advances in technology and science had it not been for wars and such..we would have no great minds, no philosophers..since there would be no universally accepted 'laws' to question.

its almost as if there would be no progress what-so-ever as far as evolution is concerned. Sure there would be some..but if we had no natural enemies..no bad weather...nothing to be inventive for what would we be like?
the House would take a while to form since we would have no need..since there's no harsh elements for us to take shelter from..sure it would come along eventually..but it would be slow.

*nod* there, hope that made sense..hehe make way for the massive ammounts of quotes...proving wrongs...and flames since we all know your smarter than everyone is Tongue

its funny cause its true Wink
someone's gonna argue over this..just watch!

I think that existence or development is not so much defined by the presence or creation of one thing, but instead by the contrast between two things.

We humans tend to measure things on a scale from A to B. How could we possibly measure anything on such a scale if we don't know A or B?

'Perfect' is often defined as a static thing, I don't think that is possible, as static things seldom have enough contrast to be perfect Smiley.

I don't know if power is the only motivation for progress, but it certainly speeds up the process.
