Hey guys, if anyones noticed my bratwurst in Programming, I've completed the Ajax battle system.
There are some bugs, but even the most critical are small - and the rest is just bad interface design (which I will fix over time).
What I need is feedback from shining force fans like yourselves on map size, character choosing, and that dreaded interface.
You can't play the game alone, it's multiplayer (2 player) only.
The game is already fun, since you have 5 characters(2 ranged, 2 melee, each with different movement ranges) and attack/victory sequences are set.
So does anyone want to volunteer to play it and venture an opinion?
I don't just want opinions like "this thing could be better" - I want to know _how_ you think they could be better.
Anyway, my availability is flexible and if you give me a time(and a timezone) and date I'd love to hear from anyone.
The game requires user tracking, in order to set the games up correctly so you do have to make a username/password. It's very straightforward though since I didn't put any bollox in there.
Please please try it out and give me ways to make it better.

How is this Sunday "afternoon" GMT time? Somewhere between 2pm and 7pm?

About 6PM on Sunday would be OK for me, and perhaps 2PM as well. If I'm online I'll give you a buzz and sort something out. Looking forward to finding out how it plays, and you know I'll give decent feedback

Thanks mate that would be awesome. Yep. I trust worthy feedback to come!
I have made one change to standard shining force battles which I don't want to overshadow any other things you might notice, but it will probably be the focus for discussion.
Turns..
In shining force once a character dies, in essence you lose a "turn".
In my battle system, regardless how many units you and your opponent have left, it goes..
your turn, my turn, your turn, my turn, your turn, my turn
making a 3v1 scenario very winnable by the player with 1 guy left.
I'm working on a way to implement both battle modes as options when creating the game so we can compare it.

I think I'd prefer the original setup but otherwise I'm highly curious! Unfortunately I have a birthday on Sunday though :/.

Roger that Devlyn, I'm working on making the shining style the standard style now, with the other (existing) style as an option.
If you see me online, just ask for a battle and I'll be sure to show you around
Showing a friend last night I got some much needed feedback from a non-shining player who said "which one am i controlling" almost every turn, and I realised that I better do something about it.
Funny really how it never occurred to me someone wouldn't know the current char is the guy at the center of the moving zone.
edit: update completed. now when you challenge somebody, they have the option of choosing alternating turns or shining turns (or declining you D: more work updates in my other thread).

OK, I am now online and ready in case anyone wants to come and test the game. I'll be in the lobby for pretty much the next 9 hours, working on graphics(since I've spent all of 30 minutes on the current ones), and player balancing for a schoolyard pickem style.

Just register an account by choosing a username and password.. and then log in.
A game takes about 10 minutes.
I would particularly like to see if we can get 2 games happening at one time, to make sure I haven't screwed things up with the pipeline, but I might be wishing too big.
Ever wanted to play someone else in a shining force battle? Now is your chance!

OK my 9 hours isn't up but it's 5am here and I'm weaker than I thought.
The game is currently having a small issue with internet explorer so if you find someone to play it with, and your connection is too slow to run it with IE, either turn caching to "never" or use firefox.
Will fix this asap, but not right now, since I'm going to fix my lack of brainpower now.
Apart from that little issue though, Job, Ty and myself had a few fun games and the rest of you MISSED OUT HA HA HA.
I'm quite glad I've finally made something, it only took 7 years and one week. (7 years to build up the motivation and know-how, and 1 week to do it). Even if it does look like a 5year old drew the sprites.
ps: I let Ty win.
haha
