When I type my username and password at the login, is it supposed to be white so that I can't see what I'm typing? The cursor moves, so I know I'm typing, and I log in fine, but no print appears in either the "Username" or "Password" boxes.

Good question - the same thing happens to me in IE but not in FireFox, as I recall. Dev may know, but then again, he may not...
